Heritage Hedging Ltd was founded by Ted Stamford, who has farmed at Elstronwick Grange Farm, on the outskirts of Burton Pidsea since 1963. In 1997 the farm was entered into a Countryside Stewardship Scheme which involved planting several miles of hedgerows.

Neighbouring farmers took notice and within two to three years Ted was planting hedges on several farms in the area. In 2007 he was awarded a contract to plant 25,000 trees and 800 metres of hedging at the SSE gas storage site at Aldbrough, which led to many more large-scale projects.

In 2008, Ted’s son, Ed, joined the business and together they have carried out projects for clients including Strawsons, Scottish Woodlands, Sand le Mere caravan park and Penistone-based JG Pears, as well as further work for SSE, including the creation of a community woodland at Garton.

In 2017, Ed took over the running of Heritage Hedging when his father retired.
